Dancer and Multimedia Artist

Katsura Isobe is a Japanese dance artist. She trained in modern ballet and then performed and taught ballet in Tokyo, Japan.

In 2000, Katsura came to London and completed an MA in Scenography [Dance] at the Laban Centre in 2002. As a dancer, she has worked with Stephanie Schober, Hagit Bar, Susan Broadhurst and Davide Tarlingo.

She performed in Sue Broadhurst¹s "Dead East Dead West" at the ICA in August 2003. A review of "Recollected" cited Œ"Katsura Isobe's performance was notably lyrical in the midst of the surrounding atmosphere of jagged energy" in the review of Resolution! 2001 at The Place, London.

Her own choreography "and Breathe.." was performed in Resolution! 2004 in January 2004 and was one of the finalists in the Third International Serge Diaghilev Competition of Choreography Arts in Gdynia (Poland), October 2004.

She appeared in "Change", the production by the first choreographer in residence at the South Bank Centre at the Purcell Room, South Bank Centre London in 2004. The same year she appeared in a collaboration with Hagit Bar-Fleming a the Chisenhale Dance Space on a project which explored the use of British Sign Language. The project used SoundBeam to translate gestures to sound using MIDI.

Her performance experience is not only in contemporary dance on conventional stages, but also in improvisation, and collaboration with other art forms such as photography, film, and technology.
