Carrie Henneman

American soprano Carrie Shaw was born in rural Kentucky and studied as an undergraduate at Lawrence Conservatory of Music in Appleton, Wisconsin.

In 2001 she began graduate studies at the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis, where she studies voice with John De Haan and has worked with Margo Garrett, Karl Paulnack, and Tim Lovelace, as well as with visiting coaches, such as Lucy Shelton, Pierre Vallet, and Brian Zeger.

While continuing to perform oratorio and opera (most recently in the part of Niklausse in The Tales of Hoffmann), Ms. Shaw has carved out a leading role as a performer of new music and twentieth-century classics.

Most recently she premiered the song cycle Nine Songs of Enchantment by Juliana Hall, sang Two Poems of Anne Fessenden by Martin Amlin, and has performed works by George Crumb, Elliott Carter, and Schoenberg.
