Paul Verity Smith

Paul is a Senior Lecturer in Electronic Arts and Performance at the School of Arts, Brunel University, London.

He took a BA in Photographic Arts from the Polytechnic of Central London and an MA in Interactive Multimedia from the London Institute. He is currently completing a Ph D. on the intersections of cybernetic theory and theatre practice. He has taught old and new media in both Britain and Asia. His work involves the creation of imagery to be used interactively in collaboration with dancers, musicians and for site specific installations.

Work with dancers has been shown at the Tramway, Glasgow (2001), the ICA London (2001) and the Junction Cambridge (2002). The Torture Garden (1999); Spitz and The Albany Theatre Depford (1999). Projection work was shown at the Teatro Adriano Rome (2001) National Museum in Prague (2002). He performed at the Watershed Media Centre in Bristol (2003) in which Jazz Saxophonist Andy Sheppard "played" video shot by Film Maker Barbara Hawkins.

In the summer of 2005 he devised the prototype of L'Instant Decisif at Interaktionslabor, Germany in collaboration with Katsura Isobe, Martin Dupras, and Jez Hattosh-Nemeth. This was subsequently shown at the Digital Cultures Festival in Nottingham in December 2005, and in 2006 at the Central Academy of Fine Arts Beijing and as part of the Second International Conference for Digital Technologies and Performance Arts, Doncaster.
