Marisa C. Hayes

Marisa is currently an artist in residence at the National Theater of Le Creusot (Burgundy, France) where she creates choreography for the camera.
In April she was nominated by the International Theater Association to the US State Department's Cultural Envoy Program. In 2009 she co-founded and organized the International Video Dance Festival of Le Breuil, which will soon announce its second edition to take place in 2010.
With a background in contemporary dance, Hayes has studied with Merce Cunningham in New York, as well as butoh with Kazuo & Yoshito Ohno in Yokohama, among others. She holds a B.F.A. in interdisciplinary arts from Goddard College (Vermont), previously having studied dance and video at Virginia Commonwealth University, School of the Arts. An avid globe-trotter, Hayes has presented work as far as afield as Mongolia, Cuba and Romania, in addition to much of North America and Western Europe.
She has recently received project grants from CEC Arts Link New York, the New York Theatre Communications Group, and the Municipal Office of Culture in Burgundy. In 2009 she danced with Atsushi Takenouchi's Jinen Butoh Company at the Centre Pompidou , and presented solo performances in Paris (Espace Culturel Bertin Poirée) and throughout France (Festival Artissm, etc.). This autumn she will be a resident artist at Parc de la Villette in Paris where she will develop an interactive and mobile movement/sound installation utilising viewing stations that each provide a different experience of the performance taking place within the installation structure.
