International Interaction Laboratory
Interaktionslabor, the media lab founded by Johannes Birringer, continues
its smaller scale series of "plein air" workshops - pursued via
the intersections of painting - writing - walking/moving - filming - and photographing.

Our workshop in August 2022 will be curated by Heiner Weidmann and is held in Heiner Weidmann and Pia Holenstein's mountain chalet in Switzerland.
The location is Hasliberg Reuti (Kanton Bern)
Our host is devising the plans for the workshop experience, and a central idea for this year's plein air experiments
is a hike up to the Rosenlaui Canyon (Schlucht) and a shlow ascent to the Rosenlaui Glacier
with paper and canvas/painting materials & cameras.
Interaktionslabor started out in the abandoned coal mine Göttelborn nineteen years ago, in 2003. The experimental media lab, with its international residency program, has held a distinguished place amongst a few similar ventures that had been created, in the 2000s, especially in Essen and the Ruhr area (North-Rhine Westphalia) in Germany after the demise of coal mining and the old industrial labor of working underground. Best known amongst these are PACT Zollverein (Essen) and its artistic programs & dance research. Similar wokshops in disused industrial sites have been created in other parts of the world.
Interaktionslabor then shifted activities to smaller-scale projects that take place at different locations in the Saarland and abroad, involving small groups of artists who use the retreat as a collective method of focussing on creative skills and somatechnic practices.
Inspired in turn by Birringer and Michèle Danjoux's London-based Design and Performance lab (DAP-Lab) but in equal measure by creative propositions from other artists who are part of the Metabody network– the summer projects continue the utopian idea of an independent small-scale “Performance Academy.” We no longer tend to use the term academy, but with an awareness of the challenges of the climate change, we tend to think of our activities as "compostition."
The plein air compostition workshops engage performance-media design, interactional concepts, investigations of gestural processes, protocols, and social choreography through painting, drawing, photography, writing and walking.

On July 20th, 2022, the Kulturzentrum Bettinger Mühle Schmelz will host a film evening.
"How much of these hills is gold"
This short film by choreographer & media artist Johannes Birringer was created during the pandemic summer of 2021 and is based on legends from the history of the original Goldbach district. Anette Delarosa plays the leading role of the last living gold digger in the valley. With his new project, Johannes is developing a fictional study of the Goldbach valley and the quarry - the narration of the nearly improbable slowly merges into a lively, believable surreal fantasy.
